Own it.Wear the mask.
An early idea for private NFT ownership on Solana.
A non-functional placeholder: nothing is collected or sent anywhere.
Your collection is public. Your identity needn't be.
On Solana, anyone can look up a wallet and see every NFT it holds and every trade it made. Maskmint is a concept for keeping the item's proof of authenticity public while the owner steps behind a mask.
Hold behind a mask
The aim: the wallet that currently holds an NFT is not shown to the public, so your collection can't be read off your address.
Prove it, don't show it
Using zero-knowledge proofs, an owner would be able to show they hold an item from a collection without revealing which wallet they are.
Authenticity stays open
That an NFT is genuine, and that it belongs to its collection, is meant to remain publicly checkable by anyone.
From the open stage to behind the mask.
A simplified picture of the planned mechanism. The proof system and program design are undecided, and nothing here is built or audited.
Mint or deposit
An NFT is minted, or an existing one is deposited, into a shielded holding program.
Don the mask
Ownership is recorded as a private commitment instead of a plain, labelled wallet address.
Transfer in the dark
Ownership can move to a new holder without publishing who sent it or who received it.
Prove membership
When needed, the holder generates a zero-knowledge proof that they own an item in a collection, with no wallet revealed.
What the mask covers, and what it doesn't.
Maskmint aims to reduce on-chain linkability between a person and the NFTs they hold. It does not make anyone anonymous, and it cannot erase history that is already public.
Intended to be hidden
- Who currently owns a shielded NFT.
- Who transferred it to whom, for transfers made inside the shielded program.
- Which of a person's NFTs belong together as one collection in one wallet.
Stays public
- The NFT's authenticity: its mint and collection membership.
- That it sits in the shielded program, and when it entered or left.
- Anything done before shielding: past ownership and trades are already on the chain forever.
- The wallet used to deposit or withdraw, at the moment it touches the public side.
Known limitations — please read
- Reduced linkability, not anonymity. Timing, funding history, withdrawals to a known wallet and your own behaviour can still identify you. We make no promise of anonymity or untraceability.
- History is permanent. If your wallet already held or traded an NFT publicly, shielding it now does not erase that record.
- Ecosystem support is uncertain. Marketplaces, wallets and display tools may not recognise shielded NFTs. Royalty and creator-fee handling is unresolved.
- Proof system undecided and unbuilt. The zero-knowledge design, its trusted-setup needs (if any) and its costs on Solana have not been chosen or tested.
- Devnet stage, not audited. Nothing is on mainnet and no security review has been completed. Do not use it with NFTs you can't afford to lose.
- Not affiliated and not advice. Maskmint is independent of pump.fun, the Solana Foundation and any other project. No price, floor or value is implied. You must follow the laws that apply to you.
